Hello everyone, I been confused with (continuous residence)... i read that you cannot be outside of the country for more than 6 months in a 5 year period. so my question is:

when they say 6 months they referring to a ONE TRIP OF 6 Months of more?

    Or
a total of 6 months accumulated out of the 5 years including several trips during those 5 years?

IN MY CASE I have done 5 trips to my hometown country of 2 months each one so it is 2 months per year..I have accumulated 10 months out of the U.S. in 5 year period

    Please help thank You all

A single trip of more than 1 year will break continuous residence, and a single trip of between 6 months and 1 year will be presumed to break continuous residence unless you present strong evidence of ties.

For cumulative trips over 5 years, that cannot exceed 2.5 years, since you need 2.5 years (half of 5 years) of physical presence.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
