  • Iranian Passport AFTER US Citizenship

This is my situation and I need some help please.

I am a Korean woman married to an Iranian man for many years. My husband is Muslim Iranian and made me change my religion to Muslim to please his family. Recently the family made me apply for Iranian citizenship and a passports while in Iran so now my daughter aged 7 born in the US and me a US Citizen have Iranian passports and citizenship as well.

Someone recently told me that it is illegal to have another citizenship after becoming a US citizen. Is this true?

If your daughter was born in the US, then she should be fine - I know of several US-born citizens who hold Passports from other countries. They're still US citizens and that can't be changed unless they voluntarily renounce their citizenship.

But your situation is different and you should probably seek professional legal help.

By applying for Iranian citizenship, you have given USCIS grounds to revoke your US citizenship because you have broken your pledge of allegiance. If you still have a valid US Passport and have been using it to travel (rather than the Iranian Passport), you're probably still OK?

I would certainly seek professional advice ..... maybe there's an immigration attorney who drops by the site and can weigh in. Best of luck.

I am told by many that if me and my daughter have US Citizenship first then we cannot apply for any others but if we had the other before US Citizenship we can keep it if the other country allows.

In our case we were forced by family and husband to do this and if I didnt I fear problems which I cannot risk with a young daughter. Now I am considering leaving him as the situation with his Muslim religion is getting a bit too much for me to handle such as praying for long hours getting fully covered up and such.

Is there any department that handles these matters specifically where i can turn myself in and explain the situation. Perhaps they will understand and help.

        Read the law

read section 349 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), esopecially 349(a)(1) INA also read section 358 INA for the State Department's role in tracking USC's in foreign countries. You are lucky they are not there.

        Good luck
