    Hello,

You would have to wait the three years.

      You can apply now :-)

You can apply for citizenship now. Spouses of army and DOD personnel fall into a special category which enables them to actually apply sooner. Your enlistment outside the US for armed forces does not violate the residency law. Thereby even if you are on a base out of the US for the whole 3 yrs, the USCIS deems it enough for residency purposes. I am surprised you waited so long when you were eligible long back. Apply ASAP

kpdvill: You have a problem, here are the requirments for applying for a US citizenship ( Do not fully know about military personnel / Consulate personnel).

You Need 5 years of continous US residency, and how will you show that if you have been living outside the US?

One of the forms that you fill for US citizenship asks you to list all places that you have lived since the age of 18 in chronological order. So they can clearly see if you do not satisfy the 5 year rule. So I am not sure how you will qualify.

I do a have a friend of mine who is a US citizen he works for the United nations and is married to an Indian citizen for the last 25 years but she does not have a US citizenship because they have always lived in Switzerland. he hopes that when he retires she will come live here then apply for her citizenship.

I have a question on the eligibility of a naturalization application :-
I am a GC holder since 1/20/2005. But I broke my residence between Jan 2006 and Aug 23rd 2006 by living in a foreign country. I have read about the qualifications basically the 5 yr continuous and 3 year physical requirements but I am not sure.

So when am I eligible to apply for citizenship or lets put it this way , can I apply for naturalization on Aug 24th 2010?

A reply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
