  • N400 queens selective service

Hello, I have a simple question. I received the interview letter from uscis for N400. But i have a "issue" with selective service. I arrived in the USA one month before turnning 26. I thought selective service was automatic like almost all over the world. and family who sponsor me didn't care to much for me to do documents etc. So I have to do everything alone. after several month I Enrolled in college and got accepted in public college for accounting. Fafsa officer believed me and they gave me loan and scholarship.

I applied for n400 in september 2019 two months before turning 31 years old. couple of day I received a interview letter from uscis NY. Today I'm 31 years old and after few weeks I will turn 32. Do I have to worry for selective service? What the suggestion?

I think you're good. Applicants over 31 years old are eligible for citizenship even if they knowingly failed to register for selective service. Things to do:

    1) Obtain a Request a Status Information Letter from selective service: https://www.sss.gov/verify/sil/
    2) Print out this letter from the SSS official website explaining: https://www.sss.gov/wp-content/uploa...CIS-Policy.pdf
    3) Write a letter explaining why you weren't able to register at that time of extenuating circumstances while you arrived in the US 1 week before you turned 26. So you were adapting, you didn't know, etc etc.

I don't think it's going to be a big issue, but try to have this handy in case you're interviewed by a difficult officer... Good luck!
