Can one who gives up Indian citizenship and takes up American citizenship go back and give up American citizenship and take up Indian citizenship?

If it is possible what will be the status of the person in America ..can they switch to Green card automatically or do they have to go through the entire Green card process again?

Yes you can relinquish US Citizenship -- There are procedures to do this.

India does have a open policy where you can furnish you Indian roots and gain Indian citizenship.

Nothing in the US is automatic, you have to apply for a GC again and no gurantee you may even get one again, it realy depends on the category & your specfic case you are re applying on.
