  • N400 + Frequent Abroad Travel...Will It Affect the Naturalization Process?

    Hi There,

I have spent around 4.5 years in the USA since getting the Green card and will be submitting the N-400 application in 2 weeks.

-> I will be having frequent Abroad trips for the next 8-10 months like... 4 Months in Abroad,Less than a week in the USA and again 4 Months in Abroad and Less than a week in the USA and so on.

Will this Frequent Travel affect my process? thanks in advance if anyone can clarify this. My assumption is, as long as I come back to USA within 6 months, I'm good to go. But I don't want to take any chances of rejection because of this upcoming 8-10 months of frequent travel.

You are good as long as the travels are within 6 months consecutively .I had multiple international travels in the 5 year period (50+ travels totaling almost 250 days but all of them are within 3 months period at a stretch ) and had no issues . In face some of those travels are after i initiated the application
They just asked is all of these travels are business or personal and my answer was mix of both and they are fine with the answer

    Good Luck

You are putting your N-400 plans at risk.

You will be spending more than 50 percent of your time outside the USA. There is a high chance CBP will give you a secondary inspection once it detects this pattern.

I understand, but I will be spending that 50% after I completing my 4.5 years of continuous stay here in the usa..anyway lets see how it goes

My wife had 350 days outside US in the last 5 yrs. as part of her job, and she just cleared her interview today (0204/2021). She had 2 trips of 3 months each and the rest of 1 week / trip.

So based on her experience, as long as you do not have 6 months of continuous gap and you meet the 3 month residence you are good to apply without worrying about anything.
