  • Studying Overseas

    Hi everyone

I received my Green Card in Jan 2006 and I am planning to apply for naturalisation in Jan 2011. I didn't leave the States until Aug 2008, when I received an offer to study law in Hong Kong. Since then, I come back to NY once every 6-7 months (i.e. summer and Christmas), and usually stay for 1-2 weeks each time.

I will finish my study in May 2011 and I have checked that I do meet the 2 1/2 years requirement for naturalisation. I am just not sure if my stay in Hong Kong will affect my application. Can anyone please give me some advice? Thanks in advance!!!

How is 2 and 1/2 years sufficient for Naturalization is that a special provision for Honk Kong nationals ( sorry I am not aware of it) or are you in the military.

I though it was 5 years of continous residency..

    Please check this link: https://www.immihelp.com/us-naturalization-eligibility/

      Wait to file N-400

After you re-establish your residence in the U. S. you need to wait 4 yrs and one day after returning from your last trip outside the U.S. last over six months before you are eligible to apply.

Seek legal advise and read 8 CFR 316.5 (a) and (c).

      Sorry.

      Bye
