  • domestic travel to CA for interview appointment

    Hi,
Our citizenship interview is scheduled to happen in San Jose CA after a long wait.
Given current Covid restrictions, any suggestions on whether its okay to go in for interview within 2 days of DOMESTIC air travel ?
The Notice for interview has no directions about domestic travel.
When I am writing this The CA and Santa Clara county travel advisory requires people travelling from 120 miles away to self-quaranitne for 10 days. tt also allows attending essential appointments during self-quarantine. However the state and county guidelines are continuously being updated.

If we proceed to the interview :
Will the initial health screening or interview include questions on domestic travel ?
Do they have access to our domesitc travel information ?
Do we need to inform the officer at the entry about domestic travel ?
Will we be denied entry if we tell them that we did domestic travel witthin 1-2 days.

There is the option to reschedule if any signs or symptoms of Covid are found.
Appreciate any response or suggestion based on your experience or understanding.

    Thanks,
    hari

Did you move while waiting for the interview. If so, why didn't you change the address on your N-400? Then they would have assigned a local field office closer to you.

If San Jose is the field office assigned to you, then your home must be within acceptable driving distance. So drive over the night before.

    a) If you are at your original address as when you applied for the N-400, then they know you are coming from your residence. So, if they ask, just answer 'yes, I travelled from my home'.
    b) No, they do not access your domestic travel information. Stop over thinking it.
    c) You don't have to 'inform' or 'disclose' any information unless they ask. But if a LEO asks a question, answer truthfully. If you get caught lying then it can create a whole world of trouble.
    d) No they will not deny entry. They may ask reason for travelling. So, if domestic travel is required because you are going from your home to the place of interview, then there is no issue. But if you are travelling from some other reason (like you moved but didn't change address), then they could ask more questions.

Just relax, don't over think it and go for your interview. If possible, drive (and avoid air travel).
And be honest & truthful if a LEO questions your about your travelling. What's the worst that can happen? Reschedule your interview for later date.

    Good luck.

      Thanks for the detailed reply.
      I didn't change address because I haven't moved.
Just visited immediate family and returning to residence.
Will do what is best possible answering questions.
