  • N400 pending and Green card expiring

I filed for my N400 in week 1 July 2020 and am still awaiting a biometrics appointment. I just realized that my greencard expires end of April 2021. I have the below questions:

    1. Can I get a field office appointment for i551 stamp on my passport as my N400 is pending and was filed with well over 6 months of remaining validity on greencard?
    2. How much delays have others faced for biometrics during Covid?
    3. Are there any other alternatives to avoid filing for greencard extension as I will again be in the que for biometrics?

    1. yes

    3. As above, you should be able to get an I-551 stamp based on pending N-400 without filing I-90. And even if you don't get an I-551 stamp, your permanent resident status is still permanent and doesn't expire; you just won't have proof of it; I don't know if you would be comfortable with not having proof for a while.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Thanks for sharing the opinion. Can someone point to any USCIS publication that states i551 stamp can be obtained when N400 is pending.
