  • Lawyer During The Citizenship Interview?

A friend hired a lawyer to fill in and file his Citizenship application because the thought that he needed one. The reason was that he had traveled extensively for business during the 5 years. He took 13 trips for a total of 800+ days, no trips were over 6 months. The lawyers employees made many spelling errors. They also made errors regarding the total number of days outside of the country and errors on three of the trips. Complicated stuff. They already paid this lawyer and he refuses to admit fault. The lawyer doesn't want to go to the interview to clear this misinformation up, he only made the online corrections about a month before the interview date, and my friend does not know if USCIS received his 12+ corrections. How can he find out if USCIS received the corrected information in time for his interview? It is so messed up and complicated, that he is losing confidence that he will be able to explain all of this in English to an immigration officer. Should he hire a new attorney to assist in the interview, or just go in alone and give it a try? Would the officer think negatively about having a new lawyer in the room to assist with explaining the correct information? Thank you for your help. Is it worth reporting the first lawyer?

I do not believe you need to have another lawyer. I believe your old lawyer has given you access to the N400 Online Account from which this was filed. If that is the case, you can upload the Business Trip corrections.

If you are not able to do it online, you still get a chance to do it during the N400 Interview. My spouse had an excel Print Out which had all my trip details (about 350+ days in the last 5 yrs) some of which she missed to enter correctly and got it rectified during the Interview. It was smooth.

He should not worry at all. The interview is to correct mistakes, not to accuse someone of lying. They will correct mistakes
      good luck to your friend!
