Hi all. One issue causing two problems - I've tried to speak to USCIS about both, but have received different answers from each person I've spoken to.
I have an N400 application pending (filed February this year). In the interim, my green card has been lost (wallet stolen).
Issue 1 - do I need to renew/reapply for my green card to complete the N400 process? Two people from USCIS told me no, a third told me yes. I do have digital scans of my card.
Issue 2 - I'm probably going to need to travel fairly soon for a family emergency. I spoke to someone from USCIS on the phone who said the N400 receipt is enough to get my passport stamped with i-551. They booked me in to do that, but when I went to the appointment, they said I would need to submit I90 for a replacement card and wait for the approval (but not the physical card) before I could get it stamped, which they said could take anywhere between 6-10 months.
It seems the easiest solution is to just fill out I-90. I'd rather not pay $500 or so extra on top of everything else though, and with issue #2 it's not clear if that will actually let me travel in the interim anyway.
