  • N-400 Selective Service

    Hey guys,

I think I know the answer having researched it, but I am second guessing myself so wanted to get an answer here.

I first entered the US on ESTA in October 2017 at age 26 with intent to stay for only a couple of months, therefore a non-immigrant.
My now-wife ended up proposing to me in January 2018, so I ended up staying and we filed I-130 & I-485 in February 2018 (now age 27 in January).
I received my temporary GC in July 2018, which is when I became officially an immigrant.

Since we filed the forms at age 27, and I received my GC at 27, I would not have been required to file with Selective Service, right? As it's only required between 18-26.

Now I am 30, have had conditions removed and have now filed for N-400 and received an interview date for later this month.

On the letter it states to bring any evidence of selective service, which is why I am concerned. Should I have something? Do I need to get a letter stating I didn't need to register?

    Thanks in advance!

No, you do not need to bring anything. You were already past your 26th birthday when you went out of nonimmigrant status (in fact, you were already past your 26th birthday when you first entered the US to begin with), so you never needed to register.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
