  • Should I consider U.S. citizenship ? Know your rights.

It simplified the laws for the citizens of the United States so that everyone could have equal rights and equal protection of the law, thus minimizing discrimination based on caste, religion, race, etc. The fourteenth amendment also limits the state to enforce any law that might abridge the citizens’ rights.
Like the Sixth amendment to the United States Constitution, the 14th amendment protects individuals’ rights under the court of law by giving equal protection under the law.

Well, that's pretty much it. Knowing and following the constitution, the rights, responsibilities, and the laws of the US. Good Job. I get it, deciding to become a US citizen is unnerving. But within our own countries we had rights and privileges too. Some were perhaps more lenient than others, not people-centered, as in 'We the People', while others were strictly enforced to the point of communism. However, as with everything, we have a choice.

You may choose to constantly renew your green cards, and calculate the additional expense as more than a citizenship certificate, to avoid becoming a citizen Or after the matriculated years pay the naturalization fee, submit an application, answer 6 questions correctly, stand and say an oath and be done with it. Of course it's a matter of choice, comfort, and pride. Just note that in most cases you will have dual citizenship within your birth country and the US. All the best.

I think if your ultimate goal is to make the US your home, citizenship is the way to go. I know for many, just living on a permanent resident card (green card) forever is just fine. But I know for me, I wanted to be done with immigration. For me it feels like you're always under a microscope, because in a sense you are. And not to mention the ever-changing Administration and government, especially within the last one, that 4 years was extremely scary, because from one day to the next you didn't know what changes would be made to how things are done at USCIS.

With citizenship you are clear of that. Any negative changes to USCIS as a result of presidential orders or a more conservative congress are not a cause for concern for you anymore.

Myself and my wife both agreed I should get citizenship because we are happily married and want to focus on our future, not to mention if we wanted to visit my birth country, or travel around, I have no limit on how long I can stay away, whereas with a GC you're limited in how you handle it.

the number one reason for me wanting to become a citizen is to be able to vote and have my voice heard! These last few years have killed me not being able to vote.

it was never in doubt. I always waqs. I was just assuming this thread was people saying why they wanted to become citizens. To be honest it was a rather strange first post ????
