  • Citizenship Question for Spouse

    HI All,
Both me and my wife have green card and I am planning to apply for US citizenship and move to India some time next year for good, My son is born in USA and has OCI. My wife doesn't want to apply for US citizenship and her green card will not be valid once we move to India and stay there for more than 1 year. So what are her option if we ever want to come to US in future for kids study or something. How long does it take for US citizen to get visa for spouse. Do I need to fill form I-130.

Also in case if I want to voluntarily give up US citizenship, what is the procedure.
    thanks

    1. What's the point in even going through this if your intention is to never live in the US?

    2. Are you a current citizen of India? Because that country does not allow dual citizenship.

    3. Here is some information on green cards and leaving the US for extended periods:

    4. There is a form you have to file to renounce US citizenship.

      Thanks Tezza.
Yes I am Indian citizen. Having worked in US for 15 years, I am just thinking if I qualify for social security benefits when I retire, although that's far away. But not sure how taxation in India works for someone with OCI and kids fees for being born in USA.
