Strange things do happen!
I got a call from USCIS Albuquerque NM, Field Office at 2:13 pm on Oct 14, 2021 (yesterday), stating that tomorrow, Friday, Oct 15, 2021, is my Oath Ceremony and that they just noticed that my Oath Ceremony notice hasn't been mailed out to me. WHAT? This must be a prank!
She continued, "I will email you the notification, but in the meantime grab a pen and write down the address...Albuquerque Convention Center". Still, in disbelief, I managed to ask, "ahhmmm, so will this email notification be as authentic as the mailed copy, and can it be used at the ceremony"? Yes, it will be just as good.
I don't remember hearing the rest of the call, but within the very minute that the call ended, I checked my email. Sure enough, there was the notification and it looked authentic just like any other notification from their office except that it had 'electronically delivered', this has got to be the first of many: receiving a USCIS call and an electronic mailed notification. So many questions: how did this short notice happen? Why did it happen? Should I really turn up at the Convention Center? What if I do not turn up at the Convention Center, will they treat it as me ignoring the invitation? Ok, I have to tell hubby, immediate plan change, call into work etc What stress!
5:30 am Oct 15, My hubby, 7-month-old daughter (turned 7 months old on 10/15, today) started our 3hrs long trip to Albuquerque, NM. This event better be for real.
I arrived at the location and sure enough, others were already there and enough signage indicated that indeed there was a naturalization ceremony. 230 applicants from 47 countries took the oath of allegiance, I was the only Jamaican, and very happy to be there. See pics of the e-notification and document received at the Convention Center.
My journey started in 2014 with J1 visa. I have documented my experience within the Green Card I485 platform and within the Citizenship forum. N400-J1-J1waiver-10yr Green card - Immigration forums for visa, green card, visitors insurance, OCI and more (immihelp.com)
Please message me for any tips or advice. All the best on your journey.
