Do I need to Surrender Passport and Surrender Certificate?

My passport was cancelled as soon as I became US citizen about 4-5 years ago. It has a cancelled stamp on it but it also has a stamp that says "If holder acquires nationality of another country he should surrender this passport to the nearest indian mission/post abroad. Do I need to surrender my passport and do I need the surrender certificate.
