  • When Should I apply for Citizen?

    Hi,

I have got the green card back in Nov 2013, but was out of the country in May 2014 for 2 years using reentry permit.

    Here is my dates :
To India To USD Outside In USA
    1-Nov-2013 USA 187
    7-May-2014 13-Apr-2016 707 281
    19-Jan-2017 17-Feb-2017 29 699
    17-Jan-2019 20-Mar-2019 62 41
    30-Apr-2019 12-Oct-2019 165 31
    12-Nov-2019 3-Sep-2020 296 535
My concern is I was of the country Nov 2019 for 10 months (296 days) due to covid travel restriction I could not travel back within six months. During that time I had my bank account, filed taxes.
Did I break my residency? I had proof of ticket which has been canceled by airlines as travel was banned in India from Mar 2020 to Aug 2020.

Can I apply now , ( calculator says I can apply ) if not when can I apply?

Please advise, appreciate help in this.

What calculator did you use? Are you talking about the Eligibility check?
These questions are solely intended to help you determine whether you may be eligible to submit the Application for Naturalization (N-400). This tool does not determine if you are actually eligible for citizenship. After you submit your application, USCIS will review your information and determine if you are eligible for citizenship through naturalization.

I think that you didn't break the 1 year you can apply but you must be able to rebut the presumption of a break in the continuity of residence. See:
    A. Continuous Residence RequirementAn applicant for naturalization under the general provision

    Especially section C. 1. and C. 3. Good luck.

Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

All my posts are based on my experience or information I read on the forums or the USCIS website. I may be wrong. Please consult a professional.

      Thanks. I used this one
US Citizenship Eligibility Calculator. Wizard for determining your US citizenship eligibility. Also find out the earliest day you will be eligible to apply for US naturalization

You can apply. I don’t think you will be approved.

I think if you want until 180 days before 3-Sep-2025 you will succeed.
