I'll be eligible for early filing in a couple of months.
I'm deaf. I see that I can either ask for accommodations, including "providing aids for deaf applicants" or "allowing nonverbal communication"; or ask for a waiver of the English portion of the interview. The specific issue is that I can't hear or speak at all; I also haven't sufficiently learned American Sign Language, so I would need communication to be entirely in writing both ways (usually I use a tablet/PC for that purpose, writing back and forth with someone else. I know there's also a part of the interview where they'd normally tell me sentences to write down, and I would be unable to hear that at all - but same thing for an entire regular interview.
Would it be best to ask for accommodations or the waiver, perhaps both, or will there be issues with being allowed to do every portion of the interview in writing?
One possible issue with the waiver is that I would have to get a doctor to fill out N-648. I'm also uninsured, so I'm worried about the cost of that - it might be expensive. Whereas, a simple accommodation request does not seem to require any kind of documentation, but the guidelines of what they are able and willing to grant seem to be really broad and vague, so I'm not sure if they would grant an interview entirely in writing both ways.
