  • Upcoming citizenship interview

    Hello!
I have my green card through my husband and applied for citizenship on January of this year based on 3 year green card. I have my interview coming up on may 23rd but they asked to come by myself and not with my husband like the previous interviews. My questions are
the documents I am going to take with me, do I need to bring everything from 2018 when we got Married or from January of this year to updated stuff till today (my lawyer has suggested the latter)
why did they not ask my husband ti come? Would they not be questioning our marriage nature and just my citizenship knowledge?
    thank you

Should start by saying I am only speaking about my personal experience. I was GC through marriage and my wife did not attend my Citizenship interview. I brought everything that my interview letter requested me to bring that included my GC, passport, Wife's BC and Passport and a copy of the new deed to the house that we acquired after my application was submitted. I did not take anything that I had already uploaded and submitted as evidence. The only thing that my Officer asked for was my GC and another form of identification which was my passport. The Citizenship interview was very relaxed. It seemed more like updating any new info (e.g I had travelled to the UK at Christmas so added that travel date) as well as just going through the motions and ticking the boxes. (i.e the yes no questions at the end of your application). I would say bring any big new stuff from after the time you submitted (ie. joint bank accounts, deeds to house, life insurance etc) but I wouldn't bother bringing any new/updated pictures of you together or updated text messages showing legit marriage like you probably did for GC. At this point in your journey it is no longer about proving a valid relationship but rather proving that you should be allowed to become a citizen. I WILL SAY A BIG BUT.... I think someone here had there citizenship interview while still having their removal of conditions pending. They did not bring their partner and because they were still pending on the removal part the officer wanted to speak to the partner. So if your removal of conditions for your GC is still pending it might be worth bringing your husband along just in case. If you haven't already then i recommend downloading the USCIS citizenship test app. I found it really helpful for learning the questions and the officer asked the same questions word for word. Also I made a more in-depth post of my interview experience on this forum if you wanted to search for it.

sir thank you so so much for sycv a detailed reply. It made me feel much relaxed. I was thinking along the same lines too. My gc has already gone through and I’m only up for citizenship interview. Case was pretty straight forward too. Hoping for a favorable outcome soon.

full name of the app is: USCIS: Civics Test Study Tools with the developer being USCIS. The image for the app is a white background with a weird blue vase looking thing and a red flame coming out of it. Hope that helps and you will do great on your interview!!

They canceled my interview because it was an I751 AND N400 COMBINED interview, which was not indicated in the interview notice. So I did not bring my husband then they cancelled it and rescheduled it after serval weeks. I am going to the rescheduled interview this Friday.

Let me know if you have any questions with Post Oath Ceremony. I have now done Passport (would recommend paying the extra for the card to so you can send that instead of the Passport to update SS) Updating SS and Voting Registration!
