Submitting N400 without marriage certificate

Hi everyone,

I am married to an Indian Citizen (who lives in India) but I don't have a marriage certificate. Has anyone ever submitted N400 without the marriage certificate now, and submit the marriage certificate later?

I am eligible to apply for citizenship being here for 5 years as a permanent resident.

I would appreciate any feedback from anyone on this.

i just recently applied on base of 5 yrs, resident, i did'nt send my marriage certificate either, my wife also live in another country, my case is accepted and i received a recipet no, and now waiting for finger print letter.

They will probably want it. The marital status is listed on the Natz Cert. It is also used to verify a woman's last name if she uses her married name.

No need to produce a marriage certificate since you are applying based on the 5-year residency rule. Sent in your N400 without it and you will be fine.

I am sorry to revive an old post however I am helping out some refugees through their naturalization process and even though they were married in their village there were not paper records of it.

I contacted the courthouse and they said they should get their marriage license as if they were never married before which makes sense.

How does that impact their N400 application though? Do they have to show some sort of proof?

They are also applying for the reduced fee I942 and they have to write down their family members in that form.
