  • N-400 Interview Scheduled before i-751 Approved, what to do?

    Hi,

I applied online for N-400 in mid-November (based on 3 year marriage), and in mid-December, I got the letter that the interview is scheduled for late January 2023 (NYC)
What should I do? Arrive at the interview with my spouse? (in the letter, it doesn't ask)

Has anyone experienced or heard about this scenario?

    Thank you!

Hey , well im really suprised with the timeline and also hopeful because i have exactly same scenario like you even dates and location
my i-751 is pending and i applied n-400 online (NYC) end of november and waiting for the interview date, you got in 2 months hopefully i will get the same timeline
As soon as i applied n-400 , my i-751 is transferred to NBC. Did your i-751 is transferred as well?
So for your question, it is really common thing lately cuz i-751 are stuck and n-400 are coming fast. Even though letter is only asking you to come it is highly recommend to go with your spouse. They have to approve first i-751 then move to n-400 , they cant make decision on n-400 before i-751. So go with your spouse , it is possible that you will have combo interview.

DEFINITELY TAKE YOUR SPOUSE WITH YOU!! It appears that the officer basically does both of them at the same time. There have been other people in this forum who had the same scenario as you and didnt bring the spouse and they had to have the interview rescheduled due to the spouse not being there. Worse case scenario if you bring your spouse is your spouse is not needed. If you don't bring your spouse and they are needed then this could delay your application!

        Thank you!

Re my i-751 - my case was transferred (to NBC) and a new office has jurisdiction.

Is there a way to know if it will be a combo interview?

It is the trend lately with n-400 application with pending i-751. Also people saying i-751`s transferred to same local office so it can be approved at the same time, As i said they cant approve n-400 before i-751. Thats why it is suggestion to go with your spouse for possible combo interview.
