To those who applied for the passport after Oath Ceremony…

Hi there, so I am looking at the passport DS11 application form and I am a little confused by this part (see attached).

I get that they require us to submit the Naturalization Certificate. So for the identifying document section, shouldn’t we write info of our Naturalization Certificate and not the details of our driver’s license/state ID?

What did you choose in the identifying documents part - your driver’s license/ state ID? Or should we leave that part blank since they are asking for our Naturalization certificate that has no expiration date?

ok so i had to relook at this form before responding. You will need a photocopy of your id front back that is not your naturalization cert. ie your driving license. I am pretty sure all the parts in blue you do not fill in. I think i went to my local courthouse who did that part but I also think a post office can also fill it in as when i was getting a postal order for the application they were surprised i just didnt do it all there. When submitting your application they will look at your driving license and then accept the photocopy of it and attach it to the application. Unfortunately you have to send your actual nat. cert. with the application. I believe you only need to fill in the brown parts before going to the post office/courthouse for them to fill in the blue parts.

I would recommend paying extra and getting the card and passport as then when updating your SS you can just send them your passport card rather than your actual passport.

When you say 'send the original naturalization certificate', do you mean show it to the USPS personnel? Or that, they take it and mail it back to you at a later date?

they will take it and send it with the application. it will then be sent back in a separate package to the passport.

Yep, you give up (hopefully temporarily) the original certificate. They promptly lost my wife's supporting document (her old passport) before processing her new one.

Wow, didn't know that at all. The thought of losing the newly acquired citizenship certificate is so scary. Hopefully it won't come to that. I take oath in a couple of weeks and might apply for passport the very next day.

Good luck on the oath taking ceremony, its super emotional especially coming through years of documentation and waiting in the system.
