Hi all,
I am delighted that I am finally an American citizen. thanks so much to this forum for the help and information. Am glad I did not pay for a lawyer as my case was pretty straight forward.
I got there at about noon while my appointment was at 12.45pm. At first reception said they could not locate my details and had me wait for about an hour until the officer came and got me. the waiting area did not have as many people at first but it quickly filled up by 1.30 to 2pm. Some people were visibly anxious, some paced back and forth. some were studying questions i presume for the citizenship test.
The officer came and got me, had me take the oath and signed me in. It took a while for the security clearance to go through on the officer's computer. we quickly went through the civics portions of the test, had me write and read a sentence in English. it was pretty easy questions like who is the president, capital of my state, how many amendments etc. I got all of them and he stopped at 6 questions.
We then started going through my application. This is where he spent most of the time double checking my details, travel/marriage history etc. He did make a remark that my first marriage was short and i agreed but did not pursue further. I guess he noted i did not receive my green card with that marriage. my advise is to make sure you know your application inside out as that is what he seemed interested in. he gave me some advise on the best route to file for my parents if they want to come over here. he asked about any jail time, tickets, taxes, work history. on travel he asked me who i went to see in those countries.
After the security clearance went through he told me he had approved me (yessss) and if I wanted to take the oath later in the afternoon. I agreed. I then went to the 9th floor where I waited for about 45 minutes until our group went through the ceremony and got our naturalization certificates.
I would like to thank everyone on this group for helping me complete this journey. it feels like a huge weight lifted from my shoulders. I plan to hang around for a few months in case anyone has questions.
