  • N400 interview scheduled 2 days before my oversea travel

    Hi All,

I sent my n400 papers two months ago under the 5-year rule. And, today I got notified that they scheduled my interview for July 16 but I have a trip planned for July 20th.
I know that if I pass they will keep my green card after the interview and, I won't have time to apply for a passport under the urgent status because they require at least 5 days' notice. Does anyone know if Immigration can stamp or give me a letter or whatever that I can use with my passport?

No, they will not take your greencard after the interview.

They will take the greencard DURING the naturalization ceremony, before they hand over the certificate. It’s only going to be a problem if they ask you to have the ceremony right after the interview, which is rare.

So at my interview the officer asked if I had any upcoming international trips coming up as they would plan my Oath ceremony around that. I am sure the Officer will ask you the same. If not, let the Officer know about your travel plans. As the above person stated they only take away the GC at the Oath ceremony not the interview! Unfortunately as soon as you take the Oath you will then need a US passport to leave and enter the US.

Hi Nahdoll16 - so what happened? Did they ask you if you have upcoming travel and did they schedule your oath taking after you returned? Also, if you dont mind, which USCIS office was this? I have a similar situation in Philly.
