  • Spouse certificate of naturalization

I have my N400 appointment in a month’s time and I understand I need to bring my spouse’s certificate of naturalization. My spouse moved to the US and got citizenship through the parents. My spouse doesn’t have her own certificate of naturalization, just that of her parents.

What’s the best alternative for her certificate of naturalization or better still, what’s the best course of action?

    Thanks

Do you have your spouse's passport that was issued at least 3 years ago? If so, that should work. If not, then (assuming your spouse got US citizenship as a permanent resident minor living in the US with a US citizen parent) a Certificate of Citizenship would be the only thing that would work, but that costs $1,170 and takes a long time to get.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

You can try bringing her passport. Otherwise bring her parent’s naturalization certificates, their marriage certificate, her birth certificate, her green card, and evidence she was living with her parents when they naturalized.

If you are going with passports, make sure you have her US passports covering 3 years before the date you filed N-400.
