Long story short when we filed our 2019 taxes our brokerage firm ended up with two1099-B forms due to some acquisition / merger that they did, however we’ve only included 1 of them with our taxes as we were not aware of the second one. Well IRS 2.5 years later came back and is asking for extra $. As I learned they never got the cost basis of the transaction and added the gross proceeds of that transaction to our tax bill. I’ve submitted the 1099 / cost basis to the IRS this week, but it will take them about 8 weeks to get back to us with the adjusted filing.
with that said I have my citizenship interview on Friday - should I be worried? How should I answer the tax question if asked?
