Ok to apply now?

I am eligible to apply for Naturalization now after 5 years of having a Green Card (India Passport). But at the same time, I would like to travel out of US in mid May 2011. I think it would be nice if I had a US passport by then.

The question is, will I be risking being in a limbo if I apply for Naturalization now?

Or is it still alright to apply now and if I need to travel while the application is processed, can I hold off on some of the steps until I return by June 2011?

I live in Nevada, USA. I think the processing center will be in Phoenix,AZ. Thanks in advance.

Should be ok to apply

The national average processing time is 5 months. You may be ok but it is cutting it close. The best thing about having a GC is you can wait to apply. Better safe than sorry I would say. I would wait till I got back.
