  • Several questions regarding naturalization

My family and I will be applying for naturalization Mid-march as in Mid-June we would've been permanent residents for 5 years, and legally your allowed to apply 90 days month prior to the 5 years.

    Several questions:

    1. We are wondering how long the process will take once applying to become a citizen (i.e. once sending out the N-400 form). I know it's different from one state to another so anyone in the Detroit, MI area able assist is greatly appreciated

    2. Are we allowed to travel outside the US during the process?

    3. I read on a few threads that sometimes the office asks about past tickets. Are those speeding tickets or what exactly. Do those include parking tickets (out of state)? If yes, so what if you do have those tickets, would you have to take care of them prior to the interview.

    4. I also heard you can track the status of your application online. What are you able to track exactly? Your fingerprint and interview dates or just when your application has been received and so forth.

    5. Is an old person allowed a translator inside with him in the interview at any point of time?

    6. Lastly, my brother will turn 18 years old in mid-June. From what we've read is that he files the N600 form. Now our concern is that if the interview date is AFTER he turns 18 (even though we applied before he was 18), what happens in that case? Would he have his own interview or does he have to apply a N400 form. Any highlights on this issue is appreciated.

    Thank you.
