Green Card with different dates

Hi Wisemen,

I obtained my Green Card through my employer in January 2007, the issue date was 1-19-2007. My wife also got hers as my dependent, but her Green Card issue date was listed as 1-19-2006.

Now does that mean that she is eligible to apply for Citizenship now or does she have to wait until 2012 ?

Will there be a problem and if so what needs to be done?

I would suggest to correct the error in your wife's greencard with USCIS. In fact, you should have done this when she first received her card. Get an infopass appointment with your local USCIS office and they will help you correcting this.

I did call a USCIS tel. number listed on the letter that came with the Green Card and a chap that answered the phone said that since USCIS was the one that put in the date, not to worry about it. And so we left it at that.

Now since it is crunch time, I am wondering.
Should I get it fixed and if so, where to start and how to go about doing so.

I would definitely get an infopass appointment with your local USCIS office and talk to them in person. When you are interviewing for naturalization, you will be under oath that you are telling the truth and in that instance your wife cannot say that she is a resident since 2006 since it is a typo by USCIS. Remember, telling not the truth automatically disqualifies you from citizenship and I would not risk it. So definitely get the date corrected.

No sense in making a dumb move.

I will avoid asking you how to make an INFOPass appointment and will search for the info on this website myself.
