  • Travel after Interview/Oath

Greetings folks. My wife of 10 years who is currently holding a Green Card has decided to apply for citizenship. I think we have a handle on the procedure and the paper work involved, however there is one area of concern. That is whether she can travel back to Germany in the window between the Interview/Oath Swearing and the time she would be able to get a US Passport. Her mother (in Germany) is elderly and it's always possible something could happen with her in that obviously my wife would want to fly back to Germany if it's serious. She (my wife) currently has an EU Passport and is a citizen of Germany (We are both living in the US)
Bottom line: Am I missing something or will it be possible in an emergency situation for my wife to leave and return to the US in the window of time that I mentioned. My understanding is the fastest one can get a US Passport is 2 to 3 weeks with expedited processing. Thanks,

After your oath ceremony, you can travel to one of the regional passport application centers and get your passport in 24 hours. Though you need to schedule an appointment with them and do some research what their requirements are (like immediate travel documents or life-death situation).
