  • Question about SSS

    Hi all,

I have two quick questions related to SSS and naturalization:

    1) If an individual is not an LPR before the age of 28 (if he is on F1/H1b), he does not need to be registered with SSS. Would you agree?

    2) When I was 26, I was on H1B status. Somehow I received a registration card from SSS. I don't know how they found me (probable drivers licence or library record?), I had no idea what it was and I did not do anything about it (i.e. contact them to cancel or confirm).. I have become LPR at the age of 30. Would this be a problem during naturalization?

    Thanks for the help

Do not worry. You are not required to register for SSS if you were on a non-immigrant visa between ages 18 through 26 (F1, H1 are non-immigrant visas). You became LPR after you were 26 years old and hence you are exempt.
