  • Name change question

    Hello everyone,
On the N-400 form, I answered that I would like to change my name. But now I decided that I want to keep my name unchanged for now. What should I do? Should I call the 800- number and tell about my decision? Or is it OK just to tell the officer about my decision during the interview? The reason why I want to keep my name because doing otherwise will delay the processing of my naturalization case, and indirectly will delay the processing of my wife's immigrant visa. Neither outcomes are desirable for me.

I think you should be fine if you indicate during the interview that you decided not to change your name. But to be sure, if your local USCIS office is nearby you could schedule an infopass appointment and ask an officer. If that is not an option, call their 1-800 number and ask to talk to a 2nd-Tier officer about your question.
