  • How long is one to be supported?

How long will a sponsor have to continue to support a divorced wife, if the divorce occurs before the Permanent Green Card is issued. We are married for 14 months and my foreign spouse received her temporary green card April 2010, for the permanent card, our meeting with immigration is to take place April 2012. If she and I get divorced, prior to that date, where there is no alimony or division of property (preowned before marriage), and I am totally diabled, how long am I required to support her?
    I appreciate any help.

I dont think you have to support her anymore. I am not sure and the best way to find out is to contact a lawyer but I believe as soon as she got her GC and SSN she can find a job and support herself. In my case my husbands uncle sign the papers for sponsoring and by the time I got my permanent GC they didnt even ask for any of the sponsor stuff (by that time I already had a job) so good luck to you. Hope that helps

Oh and also if you divorce her she most likely wont get her permanent GC unless someone else will sponsor her (like for example place she works at). But once again contact an immigration lawyer to know for sure
