  • Do I need fill in application for my kids separately?

I am in the process of filing for US citizenship. I have two kids aged 5 & 9. My questions are,

    - does my wife, have to file an application separate from my application?
    - do I fill out separate application for the kids?
    - does the same fees apply for my kids as well?
    - For tax return statements, can I attach the tax filing papers given by my accountant or do I need to get certified copy from IRS?

    Thanks in advance!

Here is what I know but always double-check the info below with the USCIS and the USCIS website:

    (1) Yes, your wife needs to apply separately and she needs to pay also the fee separately. In my case, we sent in our applications in separate envelopes but USCIS moved them in parallel; i.e., we got our fingerprinting, interviews, and oath ceremony on the same dates.

    (2) No, since your kids are below 18, you will be able to apply for their US passports once you become a citizen (you will be able to apply for their passports with your naturalization certificate).

    (3) No separate application and hence no fee for your kids since they are below 18.

    (4) I assume you are applying based on the 5-year residency rule. If this is the case you do not need to send in any tax transcripts with your application. Just have the tax transcripts with you during the interview in case the officer asks for them. I would suggest to apply for your official IRS tax transcripts right away so that you have them before your citizenship interview.

Hope this is of help. Good luck!
