Naturalization eligibility after breaking continuous residency.

Dear Friends,
Need your advise.

I am US Green card since 2004. But I moved to Canada on re-entry permit from US starting 2006.
I extended my re-entry permit for 2 more years and finally in Oct 2010, I resettled back in US.
During my stay in Canada I maintained US Greencard.

So my question is, how long should I wait from Oct 2010 to apply US citizenship? Should it be 30 months or 5 years?

My only doubt is concept of continuous residency? Is continuous residency needed for 5 years of 30 months?

Please suggest.

Being away from the US for a year or more will result in disrupting your continuous residence even if you have a re-entry Permit. When you are in a foreign country for a year or longer, though you can return to the US as a permanent resident with a Re-entry Permit, the amount of time you spent in the US before you left the country will not be considered or count toward your time in continuous residence. If you get back to the US within two years, a part of the time you spent in the foreign country will count. The last 364 days of your time spent abroad (one year minus one day) adds towards meeting the continuous residence requirement.

After I break my continuous residency and my case is denied. How long should I wait to apply again for US citizenship? Should it be 30 months or 4 more years? OK I understand it, BUT my question is from here, so starting from year 1. Is continuous residency needed for 4 more years of 30 months? After living this time in US for 30 months will I be eligible to apply again for naturalization (N400) or I have to live 4 more years in case to re-apply for N400. Please advise. Thank you
