Hi,
I am a green card holder and will become eligible for citizenship next year.
I understand that Medicarepremium payments is compulsory once you are a citizen. It works to about USD 1100 per month for both me and my wife. I dont have any income in US. I have some fixed deposits in India out of which I get Interest income of 10000 USD per year.
I also understand that is I cannot afford to pay the premium and if any amount I have in Bank is less than USD 3000.00 govt would pay the premium for medicare. Is this information correct? Will the amout I have in India would be considered in assessing this USD 3000.00 deposit in Bank?
I plan to be in India after getting citizenship for more than 8 months in a year. Does it make any sense to have medicare for me? Can I avoid that?
