  • N-400 Interview and Passport

Hello everyone, i'm about to send my N-400 application for citizenship. Reading on the Naturalization guide on the interview section it states that we must bring a passport, i don't have one i use to have one back in 2000 which was the one that i used to enter the country but unfortunately it was stolen from my wife purse although i have a copy of the front page where all the information is. i have not done any trips at all, will this be a problem not having a passport on the interview?
    thanks for all the help

It says to bring your passport(s) (valid or expired) to the interview. If yours was stolen a long time ago and you did not apply for a new one, then I think it would be sufficient if you bring your police report (I assume you filed it with a police department that your passport was stolen) to the interview. I think you can call USCIS ahead and ask about this. If you cannot get the info over the phone, then you could schedule an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and ask an agent in person. Was your passport stolen more than 5 years ago; i.e., you did not leave the US the past 5 years?

I'm not sure when was stoles maybe 2006 or later, regarding police report my wife did not file police report and i did not pay that much attention since passport was expired. I call USCIS could not give any exact response because every case is unique, she suggested to get info pass app which i did and will have on November (too long to wait). I have not leave the US in the past 11 years.

This is indeed a unique case and I am curious what information you will get at your infopass.

I think you should be fine though since you did not leave the US for such a long time.

Best of luck and please keep us posted how it goes.
