I got my green card in July, 2004 and would like to apply for citizenship now. My primary resdience is in detroit, MI. However, I am currently in Texas for a year for my studies. Is it better to apply at Detroit or Texas? What factors should I consider?

    1. Processing times: If I apply now in Texas, would the process be complete in 6-9 months? If not, I am in the middle of the processing. Then can it be be continued to other centers where I move? Thus I would not need to go back to Texas for say interview/oath etc.

    2. If I apply in Detroit, can I do the finger print/interview/oath etc at texas?

It would be convenient for me to do it now at texas as I am physically there. But, if it takes longer, I would not like to go to texas to complete it.

Any suggestions on the processing times are appreciated.

    Thanks.

Since you are only temporarily in TX and kept your permanent residence in MI, I would apply from MI. I assume you did not file for "AR-11 Change of Address" with the USCIS so your permanent residence is still in MI. So to keep things simple and not to create a mess with the need of updating addresses throughout the process, I would just do everything (fingerprinting/interview/oath) in MI. Just my personal opinion of course (and I am aware that you would have potential three trips from TX to MI, but I would still prefer to do it this way).

You should have resided at least three months at your primary residence within the state where the N400 is submitted before filing your US citizenship application.
