  • After the Interview

Hi all. I had my naturalization interview today in Boston, at the JFK federal building. The interview went well, the officer that conducted it congratulated me and gave me some material. I asked her what was next and she told me that they will tell me later when and where the Oath ceremony is going to be. I asked if I should wait there, but she told me that everything was done and that I could go home.

Does anybody know how further communications happen in these cases? While I was waiting my turn for the interview I saw people that after the interview sat back in the waiting room. Instead I was told to go home. Should I wait for a written communication? Or that my case is updated on-line? Or should I call them to know about the Oath ceremony? I head somebody in the room that the next Oath ceremony will be December 15th. Unfortunately, I will not be able to be in the country at that time, and will have to reschedule. I hope there won't be problems with that.

    Thanks all. S.

It means that you were approved but not given your oath letter on spot. Has your 5-year anniversary already passed? If not, they might be waiting on that before scheduling your oath.

The online status might change to "scheduled for oath" before you receive your oath letter but sometimes you can get the letter even without an status update.

There is no problem with rescheduling the oath only that in some cases you could be delayed by a month or even more. If possible, I would try to make it to the oath you will be originally scheduled.

Also remember, you can travel internationally between the interview and oath, but when you go to your oath ceremony, you need to update your information at the back of your oath notice indicating that you traveled after the interview.

I would wait for a week or two and if there is no status change and no letter, then call USCIS and ask about your status.

    Best of luck!

      Hi nwctzn,

thank you very much for your kind reply. My 5 year anniversary has passed already (several months). I will definitely do what you suggest: Will wait for the Oath letter till after Thanksgiving and will call USCIS if I do not hear from them by early December.

Thanks again. And happy thanksgiving everybody.

I had the same situation. Letter not received yet.

        Hey.

I had my interview around the same time as you. After the interview the officer told me congratulations you got approved. He also gave me a white envolope and told me that the ceremony will be december 15th. But he told me that i will receive the oath letter in the mail in like a week. I have not received anything and it has been now 2 weeks. Did you get yours yet? what date? where? let's keep each other updated so we can have a better idea. Good luck to both of us.

          Hi Rachid,

thank you for your reply. After my interview I also was congratulated, and I was also given a white envelope, with a welcome from the President and other stuff (constitution, declaration of independence, etc.). In that envelope, however, there was NO indication of a date for the oath ceremony. The officer who administered the interview just told me, you are done, we will let you know. I also heard about a date of December 15th for the ceremony, but I have no confirmation in writing for that. To this very day, I received no letter confirming that my interview and naturalization was approved, or setting a date for the ceremony.

I will be traveling out of the country, and therefore I would need to know the final decision as soon as possible, as well as their set date for my oath ceremony, so that I can change that date if necessary. I am planning to call them early next week if I do not ear from them.

Thanks for your post, again. Be in touch, and best of luck. St.

            let's keep each other updated.

hey. It seems like we are on the same boat. Let's keep each other posted on anything that is new. if you get a letter or your online status changes let me know. I will do the same. hopefully we get something soon so we know what to do. I have a trip planned as well so i need to know if it's the 15th for sure as the interviewing officer told me or not. Thanks for the quick reply and i will let you know as soon as i find out what's going on. The other thing i read is that we could set up an infopass apointment at the jfk building to get more information. Have you done that? let me know

                Sorry to interrupt you...

                Hi everyone,
I am sorry to interrupt you. I just had my interview on last Thursday at the JFK Federal building. After the interview, the officer said 'you're good to go.' and he also gave me the white envelope too. asked him if I could know when my oath ceremony would held on (cause my cousin had the interview on Nov 12 and she was told to go to her oath ceremony on Dec 8) but he told me 'our policy is changing every day so we'll mailing out the letter to you' Since the last oath ceremony has just been held on December 8th, I suppose our oath ceremony might be one the same date??

Or may I know any update from you?

                  Dec 15

                  Hi,

                  Sincerely appreciate everyone posting/sharing information.

I see that one user has posted Dec 8,2011 as the Oath Date.
                  Another has mentioned Dec 15,2011

Does that mean they do this very often ?
Can someone post the venue/time referred in the oath notice on Dec 15 ?

We have an interview/civics exam scheduled on the Dec 15,2011 in AM.
It will be interesting to know if anyone got the oath date invitation letter immediately after completion of the interview.

I have also heard about same day oath ceremonies, which is usually not common in Boston.

Please continue posting any updates and we will certainly do the same.

                  Thx

Hi fellow Bostonians. I was wondering if anyone has received good news for their oath. I interviewed two weeks ago and I am still patiently waiting for my oath letter. It's unfortunate that they have stopped giving out oath letters right after the interview. I thought I would be done by the end of the year but the chance looks slim now.

Hey guys, just wondering for those of you who were expecting to have your oath ceremony on Dec 15th, did you actually receive the oath letter in time?

It looks like there is one ceremony on Jan 5th and one ceremony on Jan 11th. I hope I'll be scheduled to one of these as a December oath seems to be more and more remote now.

                        Any information is greatly appreciated.

It's been a month since my interview and I am still waiting for my oath notice.

There are oath ceremonies once every week in January in Boston, somehow I don't get scheduled, even I verified that my application has been approved as shown in their system.

Anyone has similar experience to share in the Boston area? Thanks!
