My husband passed away a month ago and I went to SSI office to get my son benefits. The SSI office told me he is not a citizen. I adopted my son from Russia and got an IR3 visa saying he is a permanent resident. They told me I need proof of citizenship. I contacted the Congressman in my area and he called UCSIS and they told him for me to submit the N600 form which I did that day. I have an appointment to see UCSIS to see if they can give me a notorized copy of his Adoption Decree which the SSI office will accept that and UCSIS has those papers from Russia embassey. I then got the form for Freedom of information to get them papers. I cannot apply for a passport for my son because they need proof also! I havent had time to grieve for my husband because of this running around I have to do with these folks. The lady told my congressman he is a citizen because he has been here for more than the years required. I am at wits end! It has been an nightmare doing all this. Is there an easier way? How can I get proof of something that I know is there but cant provide it?
