hi everyone...i am new for this site . this is very informative site...indeed

I am going to apply citizenship in may so i have some questions:-

    1. In may my 30 month of physical presence will be over so should i wait 1 or 2 months more or just file for citizenship ? (i dont want to wait more even 1 month will be too much)

    2. Will they ask me that why i am applying too late i mean after 10 years as i got my green card in 2002 ) ...or will they ask me that why do you go to your country ? what reason should i give ( truth is that i married there and husband is leaving there )

    3. should i tell them that i want to file my husband thats why i need citizenship.

    thanks in advance ....

    1. I assume you will have at least 30 month physical presence in the US for the last 5 years prior to your application. If yo have a border line case (like exactly or just a little more than 30 months during the last 5 years) I would play it safe an would add two or three weeks to that before sending in the application. You do not want to risk to get denied and lose a lot of money and time just because your physical presence is not enough.

    2. Applying 10 years after getting the green card is not a problem at all. You can apply whenever you want in case you satisfy all naturalization requirements. If you have extended absences they might ask about your ties to the US; i.e., do you own or rent a house/apartment here, do you have bank accounts etc., anything that is showing that your intention is to live in the US.

    3. As far as I know, they do not ask explicitly why you want to become a citizen, neither on the naturalization form nor during the interview. As a permanent resident who satisfies all naturalization requirements you can apply for citizenship and if you get approved, you can use all the rights and responsibilities that come with being a US citizen.
