  • Applying for US Citizenship

    Guys,
I'll be applying for US Citizenship next month. After filling in N-400 do I get an option to send forms to San Francisco, Oakland or San Jose office of USCIS ? Or this is something decided by USCIS?

Does anyone know the timeline for becoming US Citizen after your N-400 is mailed & accepted?

I have seen some folks saying 5 months at San Jose office VS 4 months at San Francisco office.

    Any Help Greatly Appreciated!

    Cheers.

Nope, you do not have any control by which local office your application is processed. After you send in your N-400, USCIS decides to which local office your application is sent. The local offices are determined based on your residence address. All California residents send in their N-400 applications to Phoenix AZ (check the instructions for N-400).

The typical time line for straight-forward cases is 4 to 5 months.

      Hi Daamann
As nwctzn mentioned the typical time line for straight-forward cases is 4 to 5 months, however you might have a straight forward case but it all depends on a couple of issues, and sorry I'm not trying to raise any doubts, but I know people has same straight forward issue and it took them 8-10 months after typical 4-5 months.

Anyway I hope you get your oath letter on the same day after your interview depending on your city of residence. There is nothing to worry, immigration officers are very nice and they understand that a person in front of him/her is sort of worried and did not sleep very well thinking of the outcome.

Just be yourself and truthful with your answers and all will be fine.

      Good luck!!
