  • Application for naturalization

    Hi,
I need some help. I will be filing for my naturalization this month based on 5 years continuous permanent resident here in U.S. I am just wondering what are the other documents i need to submit besides on N-400 form, copy of greencard, photos and the payment?
I am married to U.S citizen for 6 years and i was qualify 2 years ago to file for the 3 years resident based on being married to U.S citizen but i wasn't ready that time..
Its gonna be my 5 years here and i will be filing based on my 5 years staying here,,, WHAT ARE OTHER DOCUMENTS I NEED TO SUBMIT?

You are applying based on 5-years, so what you list above is correct:

    1. N-400 form
    2. Photocopy of front and back of greencard.
    3. Two passport-style photos
    4. Check for Fee

I would also suggest that you also submit the following optional form so that you get an E-mail and/or a text message once they receive your application:

    Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance

This form can be found here: /show-form/g-1145

Thank you for answering my question.
I have another question, im just confused when the residency starts, is it starts the date you arrived here or it starts on the date when they issue the greencard? I came here as married to U.S citizen and 1 month after i arrived i got my greencard but i had to adjust status after 2 years being here. So, i am wondering if my residency starts on the day i arrived (5yrs ago) or on the date i renewed my second greencard from adjustment of status (3years ago).

Look at your current greencard and find the date where it says "Resident Since"

That is the date when you became a legal permanent resident and that is the reference date when you start counting your five year residency.

My current greencard and my old greencard showing the same date "Resident Since: 2007" , that's also the date that i arrived here,, Would that be right? so it means that i am resident here since 2007, right? I will not use the date when they issued the greencard?
Also, do i have to submit my application exactly 90 days before my 5 years here or it can be 3 days later? for instance my 5th year here is on June 10, do i have to mail the application on March 10, approximately 90 days? I heard that the application may be rejected if you submit earlier than 90 days, so i was thinking if i can submit it later to make it safer , like 85 days instead of 90 days.?

Thanks for answering all my questions, you're very helpful.

Yes, the "resident since" date is correct; i.e., 2007.

I would suggest to have a one week extra grace period and hence, to send in the application 83 days before your 5th anniversary. So you do not risk of filing it early.

                You leave Part 12 empty.

You just need to sign and date Part 11.
