Hi everyone,
I have a bit of an odd situation, and I'm hoping you can give me your thoughts. My husband entered the US on an L-1 visa when he was 25. We got married a year later, he adjusted status, and his permanent residency was approved two days after his 26th birthday. He didn't register for the selective service, as he was a lawful nonimmigrant when he was 25, and had his 26th birthday two days before his green card was approved. So, on the N-400, we selected "no" to the question about selective service. However, I just found out that the New York State Dept. of Motor Vehicles registered him for selective service when he applied for an identification card, while his permanent residency was still pending (so when he was 25). Do you think it will be an issue that we selected "no" to the question about selective service on the N-400 because we didn't know he was registered, when, come to find out, he was registered by the DMV? Will USCIS see it as bad moral character that he didn't register himself? I have printed out his proof of registration from the SSS website, in case the IO asks for it at his interview.
I really appreciate your help!
Katie
