Changing from a expired J1 visa (legal) to a C1/D visa

Hi there- I am currently an Au Pair on an expired J1 visa extension in the United States. I have recently got a job on a cruise ship that will start after I finish as an Au Pair. I am hoping you can give me some advice on how I would go about getting my C1/D visa. Do I need to leave the US or it’s ok to apply for it on the J1.


Please can someone help I will have all the necessary paper work from the cruise line!
