Valid C1/D Visa - Is Schengen Visa required? - Urgent

My son has a valid C1/D visa for USA. He received travel details today to join ship in Denmark. He leaves next Friday, 11 July. Pls urgently advise if he needs to get a Schengen visa. He is travelling from South Africa to Switzerland, stops over for an hour & then on to Denmark. He will stay overnight in Denmark & join ship the next morning, 13 July.

Yes he will need a visa for the country he is entering.

The C1/D visa covers the USA only. It does not cover Europe and should he need to travel to the UK he'll need a VISA to enter as they are not covered on the Schengen VISA.
