US C1/D VISA cancelled by recruiting company

Dear readers,
I am Sarvesh Dangui from Goa - India, i had been selected as a casino dealer for a cruise line through a recruiting company in Mumbai, i had got my US C1/D visa stamped on 4 May 2010, then my job offer was rejected by the cruise line company as i was not presently working, when i claimed for my passport, the recruiting company returned me my passport with the cancellation of my visa by stamping "CANCELLED" on it. if i go to see it the stamp looks **** to me so i complained to the mumbai US consulate but not got any reply yet.
I just want to clarify that "can a recruiting company cancel my US visa without my consent...
please help....

Well,that is 100% illegal act by recruiting agency.In order to get C1D visa,the cruise line companymust give you employment letter.With employment letter,you will get C1D visa.Without employment letter,you can not be admitted in USA,even if you have valid C1D.The cruise line company can break the employment contract with you,but can not cancel your visa.You will find another job for cruise line, and get another employment letter,and you will be again admittable in US.You have employment letter and C1D-means you have a job and you can enter US.You have only C1D,but not employment letter-means you do not have a job and you can not enter US.Simple as that. US visa(doesn't matter which one)is US Government property.Only US Government agency have power to cancel your visa and your status.In the end,you have gotten US visa from US government agency,but not from cruise ship line company.Report that case to local US embassy,and that agency will not cancel any more visas...

They are not allowed to do that. That said, it seems in developing countries you have no recourse.

The cruise line company can break the employment contract with you,but can not cancel your visa.You will find another job for cruise line, and get another employment letter,and you will be again admittable in US.
