Hi all,
I was a J-1 research scholar. For discrepancies with my old employer I filed a change of status to J-2 in Nov 2017 (dependent of my wife J-1). I was expecting the case to be approved by August but I got notice yesterday that my status is J-2 as of 21st February 2018.
The department in which I was working already paid conference fees for me to attend a meeting on 4th-9th March. They were/are going to reimburse the plane tickets that I personally purchased to get to the venue.
It would be ok to attend the conference? or I will be violating my J2 status? I want to thread on the safe side, since I would like to keep my options open about staying in the US long term.
Thanks for the help!
