My friend was part of a J1 teacher exchange program. His visa was terminated with no notice. He was told that it is for reasons not disclosed. This followed him making a complaint to the program regarding their handling of a situation and lack of offer of support given to him which would have had a detrimental affect on his mental and emotional welfare.
We have several questions:
Are sponsors allowed to terminate J1 visas due to a complaint being made? Should he have been told the reasons for his termination? Will his terminated visa work against him in his application for a B2 visa? Who should we contact regarding professional advice on this? He was made to sign a contract, but it is felt that he signed under duress with a time limit and in a highly stressful situation.
The only thing that we can see that caused his visa to be terminated was that he made the complaint. Other than that, he followed all conditions of his J1 visa and of his contract with the sponsor and his employer.
