  • J2 Extension with EAD Renewal

    Hello,

Any help here would be much appreciated!

My wife (J1) and I (J2) have been approved for a two-year extension and we're waiting on our updated DS-2019s to arrive.

I need to get started applying for my EAD renewal. Do I need to have a new J2 Visa stamp in my passport to apply for the EAD renewal, or do they just need a copy of the new DS-2019?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Just DS-2019

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Cool - do you know of any source for this? I am stumped trying to find official instructions online.

On the I-765 page -> Forms and Document Downloads -> I-765 instructions

Thanks. I was seeking the answer all over the internet, when I should have just carefully read the instructions there.

For anyone seeking the same answer, it does seem from the Required Documentation section that it's not required to submit the visa again if you're renewing.

This seems to be reinforced in the J-2 section where it doesn't list the visa as required documentation.

"J-2 Spouse or Minor Child of an Exchange Visitor--(c)(5). File Form I-765 with a copy of Form DS-2019, evidence the J-1 principal foreign national is currently maintaining status, and evidence any income from this employment authorization will not be used to support the J-1 principal foreign national. Also, provide evidence you are currently maintaining status and include evidence of all previously authorized periods of J-2 employment."

Don't we have a simpler and faster way to do it? For example, we can go to a visa support specialist for assistance. The source of information from them will be much faster and more accurate.
